Colosseum and Roman Forum: How Ticket Bundles Actually Work
One ticket, three sites, and a lot of confusing add-ons — here's what a standard Colosseum ticket does and doesn't include.
A standard combined ticket covers the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and is valid for 24 hours from first use across the two sites (the Forum and Palatine share an entrance). Here's how to use it well.
What's included, what isn't
The base ticket gets you into the Colosseum's ground floor and the Forum/Palatine complex. The upper tiers (Belvedere) and the underground (Arena floor and hypogeum) are separate, guided-access add-ons that run on limited time slots and sell out well ahead of peak season.
Visit order matters
Because the combined ticket is timed only for the Colosseum, most visitors do the Forum and Palatine first — they're less crowded in the early morning and there's no fixed entry slot to work around — before moving to the Colosseum for their booked time.
Free entry days
Rome's state museums, including this site, offer free entry on the first Sunday of the month. Expect significantly longer queues on those dates.
A note on resellers
Only tickets bought through the official Colosseum ticketing platform or an authorized reseller are valid — a wave of unofficial sites sell tickets at inflated prices with no guarantee of a working booking.
